FINDING BALANCE is my motto when it comes to what foods I choose to feed my family. I've battled with my weight all my life and until recently never really understood the effect of food on our bodies. I also live in reality and know I will never be able to cut meat, dairy or sugar from our diets completely. For every 'unhealthy' dish we prepare there are ten 'healthy' ones to follow, or I try to blend the two. For example if we're having corn dogs for dinner then we're also going to have a fresh cucumber/tomato blend with a fresh fruit salad to go along with it. To me that teaches balance to my kids so they don't grow up with the same bad eating habits I've had to un-teach myself over the years.

One of the best things about living in the Northwest is the expansive variety of fresh locally grown ingredients. I firmly believe in eating locally so I strive to find recipes that promote our local growers & farmers. We frequent our Farmer's Market and I find the vendors are a great resource when trying new foods or rediscovering an old favorite. They know how to prepare their product to bring out the best flavor as well as how to keep their produce fresh the longest.

Unfortunately, like many Americans right now, I am seriously budgeted. This has inspired my creativity both in and out of the kitchen. My goal is to create & share recipes that won't break the bank with specialty ingredients I'm not likely to have on hand or use again. There are so many common grocery items that can be re-discovered without breaking the bank.
