A Side Trip to Multnomah Falls OR

This amazing 611ft waterfall takes my breath away every time!
We often make the 4 hr trek to Portland OR from Kennewick WA where we live. Easy acess from I-84 makes this a refreshing place to stop, stretch our legs and breathe in the wooded crystalline air during a long day of driving with three young kids. It's only a 5 min walk from the I-84 parking lot to the base of this roaring 2 tiered wonder.

Cloaked in the mystery of native American legend, Multnomah Falls captivates the imaginations of my young explorers. With their pent up energy we welcome the gentle hike (only a few hundred feet) up the paved path, to feel the mist on our faces at Benson Bridge. This bridge spans the the base of the first tier, giving full awe inspiring views of both tiers. The trail continues farther up the falls, but with a baby stroller & a toddler, we opt out of that option.

No trip to the falls would be complete without a visit to the historic Multnomah Falls Lodge. This great sample of NW historical architecture was built in 1925 with every type of rock found in the Columbia Gorge. We enjoy a variety of local wares in the gift shop as well as the various refreshments ranging from ice cream to hot java.

We don't have a pooch but Multnomah Falls welcomes them as long as they are leashed and owners are responsible about cleaning up the waste of their 4 legged friends.

I hope this has inspired you to pull off to the side of the road and explore Multnomah Falls. We have never regretted doing so!

Happy Exploring -- Jenn
